Middlebury has free music every year, too. The 38th-annual Middlebury Festival on the Green begins Sunday and runs through July 16. Performers on this year’s schedule include, at 7 p.m. Sunday, the New Nile Orchestra; 8:30 p.m. Monday, The Lonely Heartstring Band; 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Les Poules a Colin; 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Daby Toure; noon July 14, Rik Palieri; 8:30 p.m. July 15, Madaila; and 7 p.m. July 16, a street dance featuring the Vermont Jazz Ensemble.
